Florida's East Coast Surfing Beaches Offer Plenty of Chances to Catch Some Waves

Iceland Bahama chain blocked most of the major offshore swells hit the south coast of Florida are doing the best surfing beaches in Vero Beach and start north. Sebastian Inlet is the most popular local surf in the state, home to many surfing tournaments per year. The Sebastian Inlet Pro Surf Contest Seacow Volcom, Quicksilver skin and many other smaller competitors.

Sebastian Inlet is a unique place for surfing, with two popular sites wheresurf riders catch waves. The North Jetty is the most popular, surfers have a short paddle to the best waves on the east coast. Monster Hole, south of the inlet and about 3/4 mile off the beach is the place where head high swells take longboarders for a long ride, but it's a pretty good paddle out to the breaking waves so usually only locals attempt the paddle. Most of the locals come in from the south and paddle for about 1/4 mile out to the break, sometimes they just jump off the south jetty depending on the swell direction. Others use a boat to take surfers out to the break, tow in surfing from Personal Watercraft are also found riding the monster waves.

Cocoa Beach is called the "Small Wave World Capital" and features some of the best summertime surfing in Florida with an eastern facing beach. One of the more popular surfing spots is the Cocoa Beach Pier, a man-made surf break builder, the pier is also a popular party spot and has hosted the Beach Boys in Concerto.

Cocoa Beach is also home to many tournaments such as the PBR Pro Surf Contest NCFL Maui Mix, ESA Surf Contest, NKF Surf Tourney, King Peak, Kelly Slater Invitational, and brothers, the Easter Bash and many other smaller annual surf contest.

If you learn to sail or surf lessons should be extended to Cocoa Beach is the best place. The Space Coast is home to many of the world's best surfers like Kelly Slater and the Hobgood brothers, many lesser-known surfpros are from here also and offer instructional training.

Just a little north of Cocoa Beach is Cape Canaveral. Cape Canaveral's coastline is kinda bay like and is popular with those learning to surf and at times when the waves are too big for surfing the beaches of Cocoa Beach.

New Smyrna Beach is also popular with local surfers. The northeast facing beach is best in the fall or whenever the wind blows out of the northeast.

Daytona Beach is possibly the most unique surfing spot on the east coast for one simple reason, you can drive right on the beach. The coastline faces northeast and is popular during northeast swells, but the real advantage is from the ability to drive on the beach, surfers are more mobile and can drive along the beach until they find the best break, as tides and the bottom changes. There are also a couple piers that offer a challenging break during peak conditions.

St Augustine is in a unique position, the beach there faces east, in South Beach overlooking a little 'to the south and the north side a bit' to the north and offers a variety of small ways to change the wave. S. Augustine also has a narrow bridge, the locals through the recovery. Of course this is very dangerous and very popular.

Jacksonville Beach is the most northern part of our tour, the beaches are very popular with surfers with a beach front of the east. The Jacksonville Pier also offers a good break.
