Florida's West Coast Beaches - Which One is Right For You?

Florida's west coast faces the Gulf of Mexico. The beaches on this side of the state have very white sand, beautiful blue water and a place for almost any vacationer. From Marco Island, which sits just south of Naples, to Pensacola Beach in the panhandle, there are hundreds of beaches to choose from. Although this article can't possibly cover every beach destination, we will offer a few to consider.

Sanibel Island - Sanibel Island sits off the southwest coast of Florida. It is world renowned for the shells that you can collect and people come from all over to collect their shells. The island itself is very low key and makes for a relaxing vacation for families or honeymooners.

Clearwater Beach - The beaches of Clearwater are 35 miles of beautiful wide, white sand. Although Clearwater has some nightlife, it is close enough to Tampa to have something for everyone.

Destin Beach - Destin, called the Emerald Coast, has some of the whitest sand of any beach anywhere and is very family oriented. However, like Daytona, you may want to avoid it during spring break as it is very popular with college students during this time.

St. George Island - St. George Island off the gulf coast right where the panhandle meets the peninsula of Florida. A 4-mile bridge connects the mainland with the island. It is very non-commercial and tranquil with only small number of restaurants, bars and small businesses. Great relaxing vacation, but don't expect to do much except the beach.

This is only a small fraction of the possible beach destinations on Florida west coast. However, almost any beach you visit in Florida will nice. One of the main considerations is what type of activities do you want while not on the beach. Once you know that, you can't go wrong on any of Florida's beaches.
